Canucks Jersey A familiar name has returned to the Vancouver Canucks as a coach.
Manny Malhotra, who left the team while recuperating from a serious eye injury, has returned to the franchise to work with the team’s younger players as development coach, the Canucks announced Wednesday.
“We’re pleased to have Manny re-join the organization and work with our coaching staff to help develop and mentor the players,” said
Patriots jersey team president Trevor Linden. “Manny has a wealth of experience from nearly two decades of playing in the National Hockey League. His character, work ethic, skill and perseverance are qualities we value and know will benefit our team.”
The Province’s Jeff Paterson reported last weekend that Malhotra was on the verge of joining the Canucks.
Malhotra will work part-time during home practices, developing specialized skills and on systems — including faceoffs, which was a particular strength.
Wrote Paterson: “Malhotra appears to be a perfect fit for an organization that struggled mightily in
cheap jerseys the faceoff circle last season, finishing 30th in the NHL. In his 991 career NHL games, Malhotra won 56.4 per cent of the faceoffs he took — and won a staggering 61.7 per cent of his draws in his first year in Canucks colours.”
He played 18 years in the NHL with the New York Rangers, Dallas Stars, Columbus Blue Jackets, San Jose Sharks, Canucks, Carolina Hurricanes and Montreal Canadiens, racking up 295 points (116-179) and 451 penalty minutes in 991 games.
